Sunday Night Church will be happening the first and 3rd Sundays of the month, alternating between TCC and Vancouver. The next SNC will be at Garden Grove on Sunday October 4th at 6:45 P.M. Currently we are open to young adults and older youth. What is most important is that anyone who comes must be prepared to share openly and accept anyone who comes through the door. There is no prejudice and no judging, but there is a lot of sharing, laughing and worshiping.

The Future of MAYAs

Hello All!

We had a good time with the Lincoln City folks yesterday. They are a kind and compassionate group. I am glad we were able to share in ministry with them!

On another note, this summer marks our 2nd year since we came together as a group. We have had a lot of amazing experiences together and a lot of fun. We have had strong relationships built from the group and the ability to share in faith with one another.

I have been praying for the group and the direction we should be going. I have also been praying about my own personal contributions to the group and need to discuss this with the group. I would like us to all pray and reflect on MAYAs, where we want to go, and what we are willing to do to help. So when we come together we will be able to openly share.

Please join us on July 26th at 3pm for a get together with fun and seriousness as we discuss the future of the MAYAs. Details below:

Financial Peace Round # 2

Hello again,

I am really excited to have the chance to offer a life changing class starting April 15th at Tuality Community of Christ Church. You may have read about it in last months Herald. The class is entitled Financial Peace University and it is taught by radio host Dave Ramsey (by DVD not in person). The class will change the way you think about money. It will teach about giving, saving, and spending. All 13 lessons will give great information that will help you to learn how to better handle your money get out of debt, save more, and spend less. You not only learn about paying off debt, but you also gain valuable information on what types of insurance to buy, how to invest, how to use cash to get better deals, how to deal with creditors, and many other valuable lessons.

The lessons are entertaining and the group discussions will help bring something to each member that attends. We are currently 8 weeks into our first class and I can already see transformations in the families. I am starting to see what true Financial Peace means in there lives as they begin the steps to transform. As I speak with them I can already see there confidence rising and there hearts filling with joy as they give more and worry less. I can not wait to share this great class with more of you so that you can also feel the power that comes from financial peace. Emma Smith: My Story

What: The past year a movie about Emma Smith's life debuted on the big screen for a short while. "Emma Smith: My Story" is a historical fiction based on her life and involvement in our church's beginnings. We will be watching it on DVD. We will take some time afterwards to discuss it as well.

Do These Shoes Fit Me?

It’s never easy to walk in someone else’s shoes. Even if that person hands them over to you. Will they fit correctly? Will they be comfortable? Will they fit not just you, but your personality? Were they made for your intended use of them? Will they last as long as they did for the previous owner? These questions may not make sense to you now, but they will. Let me explain.
I am a Priest. I like being a Priest. It very much suits who I am and the ministry that I can provide for not just my congregation, but my Mission Center as well. I come from the Greater Pacific Northwest Mission Center. I was born and raised in Oregon and currently live in Vancouver, WA (just over the border from Portland, OR). I know most everyone that I see at our yearly family reunion at the beautiful Lewis River Campgrounds. I don’t think I could be anywhere else in the entire world. Unless, of course, God has something to say about it. And maybe God did have something in mind for me. I felt I was needing to do more. I was at a point in my ministry where I was looking for more.

It was at Reunion 2007 that I was approached by some folks who had a proposition for me. I was asked if I might be interested in taking over the Senior High Camp from the current director who was looking to step down after 19 or so years to pursue another path in his ministry. To be totally honest, I was surprised that I would even be thought of to take over his spot. I had not only never directed a camp before, but the thought of taking over for someone that had been in that role for almost 20 years was quite intimidating. I was looking for more, but not this much more. Or so I thought.

I then spoke to the director about it. I was humbly surprised to find out that he also supported me stepping in for him and taking the reigns. I was honored that he had that kind of trust in me (thanks Rick).

He invited me to come up on the last night of his camp to get an idea of what it was like. I hadn’t been to Sr. High camp since I was a camper. And it just happened to be his first year, too. I hadn’t been there as neither a counselor or pastor or cook or anything before. And certainly not as director.

I went up at the end of the week of the camp to the grounds. The kids were getting ready for the final campfire when I arrived. I knew most of them from other youth events that I had participated in as well as Reunion. I said hi to a few of the kids and some of the counselors too. They had all heard that I was considering taking over (I hadn’t made a decision as of yet) and were all asking me if I was going to. I told them that I hadn’t made up my mind yet.
While the final campfire was going on, I hung back a ways so as not to be a distraction. Even though they all knew me, I was still a bit of a stranger to that camp. It was still the current director’s camp. I was just a fly on the wall.

After watching campfire, I noticed an amazing spirit amongst the kids and staff that night. They were a very tight group. There was a lot of love for each other, and the spirit was there too. No doubt about it.

I left that night thinking to myself on the way home. “Is this the right thing to do? Do I deserve to take over a legacy like this? Will these shoes fit me?”

I had one more person to talk to about this. I had to make sure that the boss was ok with me leaving her at home with our own kids before I go trekking off for a week. Amazingly, she gave me her blessing as long as I would put my all into it…and prayed about it.

Yep, give it to the Lord. Let it be God’s will. How simple, right? It was until I spoke later to the director after I had said yes that I realized what I was really in for. We met for lunch one day in the fall and talked about what he put into his camp and what it took to run it. We talked for about 90 minutes about it. But instead of being intimidated, I felt a sense of calming about it. Yes, the Spirit was there very quietly telling me to “go ahead, do it”. But I was also excited about it, too. And confident.

And so, I went about preparing, getting a theme, finding counselors, cooks, nurse, lifeguard, and kids. In talking to the kids at my home congregation, they were as excited about camp, if not more, than I was.

Camp came and went. I came home when the week was done, said hi to the kids went upstairs and chatted with my wife about the week. I was so exhausted, but filled. I couldn’t really say anything. I just turned to her, put my head in her lap, and cried. Not in sadness, but for joy. Joy because it went so well. Joy because the kids all had a good time. Joy because I had put something together that was a success. Joy for the staff that I had who put their all into it as well and made it a success. Joy in my camp pastor/co-director who also mentored me the whole way with great advice and positive reinforcement. It was AWESOME!

Will I do it again, you better believe it. It was a learning experience for me. Trust in the gifts that God gave you and his work shall be done. And have trust in a new pair of shoes. Who knows where they will take you next.

Samish Fall Young Adult Retreat

The retreat was so much fun and uplifting! We all had a good time in fellowship, fun, and worship. We had a Murder Mystery dinner Saturday night which was acted out by young adults at the retreat. Might I add that they did a superb job! We had classes from our guest minister Erica Nye which focused on our need for church and the churches need for young adults. After the communion service someone suggested we sing some more and it morphed into a spontaneous song service for over an hour. It was followed by the traditional What If/Then game! Sunday we shared with one another testimonies, struggles, blessings, and prayers. It really was a great weekend! I hope that more people can make it out next year.

MAYA Service in Salem

What: We will be in charge of the service at the Salem Congregation during the regular morning worship. This includes all the music, sharing, prayers, and other parts of the service. Afterwards we will all go and eat together or there will be a potluck (still trying to figure it out). It will be
similar to the service we hosted at the Tuality congregation.

Blessing Our Children and Future Generations

We have an exciting Mission Center event to tell you all about! On the weekend of September 26-28 at the Portland, OR Community of Christ congregation, there will be an Intergenerational Dialogue Experience! The intent of this weekend event is for the Younger Generation (Youth & Young Adults) and the Older Generation in the church to share in a weekend of listening to each other.

As you probably already know, participation of young adults in the church is continuously declining. There are a variety of reasons for this happening, such as prefer different worship style, prefer to express faith in other ways (volunteering, etc.), work schedule doesn't accommodate going to church, not feeling like we have a place in the church, unsure about faith, and a variety of other valid reasons. The intention of this weekend is for the older generation in the church to listen to the youth/young adults so that we can all become more knowledgable of what we can be done to reach out to our generation.

This is not intended to be just an event, but the beginning of a wonderful process. The Mission Center is taking the steps needed to examine this and be at the forefront of reaching out to young adults and youth in the Community of Christ. Nothing can change until we are willing to talk and listen to each other.

So, I encourage you to join me and come to this invaulable weekend experience. I have had the pleasure to serve on the committee for this event and am really excited about the possible outcome of an experience such as this. Attached to this e-mail is a mailer that was sent out with lots of information and a registration form on it.

Hosmer Camping Trip

MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR AUGUST 15-17

What: Camping Trip! Some of you may have attended junior high boys camp at Hosmer. Well we are taking our own young adult camping trip up to the lake. There are many things to do over the weekend. There is nothing set in stone we have to do. A lot of it depends on who decides to join us.

When: August 15-17

Where: Lake Hosmer

Cost: All prices will vary based on how many people go. Everyone is responsible for thier own breakfasts and snacks. When we know how many people are coming we can purchase together Saturday lunch (sandwiches) and dinner fixings (hotdogs and smores) unless you have special dietary needs. Food: $20-30 Gas: $20-40 Misc: $25 (parking fees, dining out, firewood, camp site fee, etc)

Travel Plan: Leave Portland around 3pm (will vary depending on who goes) from the Portland congregation. Travel to Salem and pick up other young adults. Leave Salem around 5pm and head to Hosmer Lake. Stop for dinner, food, and water along the way. Reach Hosmer and set up camp around 8:30-9pm. Leave Sunday afternoon to head back.

Details: Just so everyone knows there are no showers where we will be staying. There is another camping area that has showers you can use but you must pay for them. So bring quarters. You can see below a list of activities and what to bring.

If you plan on attending please let us know in advance so we can work out the carpool. If you have any questions do not hesitate to ask. Thanks!

flashlight (for night and in the caves)

sandals (the ones that strap on... there is broken glass sometimes in Elk lake)

clothes (3 full changes worth, in case you get dunked while canoing)

enough cash for sites/parking at parks/lava tubes

quarters (for hot showers if you don't want to bathe in the lake)

Justice For Darfur

Many of the MAYAs have participated in efforts to better inform ourselves about the events in Darfur over the past several years. We have attended documentary showings, lectures, interfaith services, and held a fundraiser for aid in Darfur.

Today is a great day for the international criminal court has finally filed genocide charges against the Sudanese president, Omar al-Bashir. This a very large step in helping end it for good. There are still many steps that need to be taken and hurdles to over come. Please make it a matter of earnest prayer that everything will work together to put an end to this.

Memorial Day Retreat Cancelled

Hello Young Adults!

It is with regret that we send out this email regarding the Young Adult Retreat on May 24-26th at the Spokane Valley Community of Christ. Due to a lack of interest, we have decided to 'extinguish the fire' and cancel the retreat.

We appreciate the few who had sent us their registration and will return the money. Since we did not hear from enough people expressing a committed interest in attending, we didn't know how much food and materials to buy for a successful weekend. We also realize the distance that many would have to travel, and with gasoline prices as high as they are as well as this being the first holiday weekend of the summer, we understand that people might have made other plans.

Have a safe and wonderful Memorial Day weekend. We hope to see you at the annual Young Adult Retreat at Samish Island, Washington in September, in which the Young Adult Coordinator for the World Church, Erica Blevins Nye, will be attending.

These scholarship opportunites were created out of the generosity of the Community of Christ. Calling all Young Adults!

You are invited to join us for a fun and memorable Young Adult Memorial Day Weekend Retreat in Spokane Valley, Washington! We're going to 'Ignite the Fire' while meeting other young adults for fellowship, food and a fantastic time. Come bask in the glow of some of the most beautiful scenery the Inland Northwest has to offer. The Spokane Valley Community of Christ church will serve as base, starting noon on Saturday May 24th and ending at noon on Monday May 26th.

Also planned is an introductory welcome service Saturday evening, morning yoga for the early risers, a Sunday evening jam session, and a closing morning reflection service open for testimony and music.

The young adult retreat at Lewis River went off very well. We had a lot of fun sharing, laughing, exploring, and enjoying ourselves up at the campgrounds. Susan Gregory did a wonderful job helping us explore faith, discernment, and action in our interactive and fun classes. We had plenty of time to share our experiences and testimonies with one another. We worshipped and prayed with one another. All in all it was an amazing weekend. The Fine Arts Retreat

The ever growing annual retreat will take place at Samish Island Campgrounds on the weekend of April 25-27, 2008, and is open to people of all ages! I went last year and had a lot of fun. For those who play guitar it is a great time to jam with others and learn. But, if you are not so musically inclined there are plenty of other artistic endeavors to pursue. The numbers at this retreat keep growing. On Saturday night they have a big talent show as well. Plus, the weather is pretty nice this time of year up at Samish and you get to hang out on the grounds.

Description: The event involves planting and mulching native trees and shrubs. No experience is necessary! We do our best to make restrooms accessible at natural area events but sometimes the only available restroom is a ten minute walk away.
Directions: Take I-5 South to Exit 296B and follow SW Multnomah Blvd. to SW 31st Ave. Make a right on SW 31st Ave. Make a right onto SW Capitol Hwy. Make a right onto SW Texas Ave. Follow SW Texas St. down the hill and find on-street parking. Look for the "Tree Planters at Work" signs.

Come plant trees with us March 8th at NW Texas Wetland & NW Portland, natural area, with the "Friends of Trees" organization from 9am to 1pm. You can access details such as the exact location provided by there company via the link and even plan your trip on Trimet right from their website. There are also directions from I-5 if you're traveling by car, at the website.

Just go to the link, select Volunteer and scroll down to the desired date and location mentioned above. Note, if you choose the Volunteer link at the top of the screen you will also need to select the "Plant with Us" option to access the schedule of planting dates.

The coordinator of this activity from the "Friends of Trees" organization has advised us to dress with several layers of warm clothing with a water-proof top layer so you may peel off layers as you need, to stay warm and dry. They have also advised us to pack an extra pair of shoes to drive home in or to bring a plastic trash bag to sit on/to place at your feet. You only have to do this though if you want to keep your car clean on the ride home, some may choose to op-out on this suggestion though because at this point it may makes no difference what happens to their car.

Also, they will be serving coffee and pastries, however if this isn't enough for you you may consider bringing your own food and/or drink as well. Strong, sturdy and water-proof shoes or hiking or rubber boots are best so as to keep your feet warm and dry. Tools, gloves and guidance all come graciously from our coordinators at Friends of Trees.

Please contact us as soon as you know if you are coming or not, as we will have to let the organizers of this planting know if we plan to have more then ten volunteers, as soon as possible. We may want to organize at Portland Congregation church again to carpool if enough volunteers begin to contact us with these wishes or another more convenient location, should one arise.

Please keep Jessica Porter in your prayers. She has had a severe migraine the last 2 days and had to go to the emergency room last night and have a cat scan. She is worried about it since this is not common and they were not sure what exactly may be going on. Thanks.

Update on Andy: I talked with Andy last night and he is doing well. He has a sore neck but believes that it could have been worse. It was a five car pile up and he hit the person in front of him. He was rear ended which pushed him into the person in front of him. Although he was not cited he is nervous that the person in he rear ended may come after him. He is also shaken up by it. Plus, he has a lot of paper work to file with the state. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

Andy just called. He was involved in a multiple car pile up on I- 84 in Portland. He was smacked real good. Both his airbags deployed and he is really shaken up. He is waiting for the paramedics to check him out, but he thinks he is ok.altho he says his back hurts.he was hit from behind and got pushed into the car in front of him.

In the past several years she has served as assistant reunion director, reunion director, and registrar as well as promoting reunion attendance and participation. Susan and her husband, John May, have been married 20+ years, and live in Gresham with Sophie the Schnoodle. Retired from the City of Portland after 30 years of service, she is grateful to be able to focus her time on her ministry as well as her large extended family.

Good morning Rachel,

Conditions in Haiti are exceptionally difficult for many people. You are right to be shocked by the report of people eating dirt to quell their hunger.Outreach International provides schooling in Haiti for about 9,500 children, including daily meals for about 1000. In addition, we have a new gardens project, and are increasing our support of this over the number of years to develop model gardens for families in communities where the schools are. While this report is new to many, the fact that many are hungry and are suffering in Haiti has long been a problem. That is why Outreach International has been working with the communities to develop school opportunities, which over time will lead to economic opportunities and increased self sufficiency. Our regular meals program also makes a difference.

We would, of course, like to do more - and will do so, as more generous hearted people make gifts to help the families and children in Haiti.Another place of desperate need that gets little attention is the Democratic Republic of Congo, where Outreach International also works. You might have seen the report last week about the peace deal that is struggling to go through (http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/africa/01/23/congo/index.html?iref=newssearch) 5 million people have been killed in that civil war since 1998 - 45,000 people per month, and many are women and children. Outreach International works in the south east corner of the country. Many of those with whom we work are refugees from the central and north east who are fleeing the war - where their experiences were horrific.We live in a broken world. I am grateful that we have the capacity to join with people in poor communities who have a passion for a world free of poverty. Working together - donor, field staff, and community residents - sustainable good can be accomplished. And is.

Many of you may be familiar with Outreach International and how they are positively effecting our world for the better. I just recently came across this article, "In hungry Haiti, dirt is food", on Yahoo! News. It should be of interest to us all that Outreach International as well as the Community of Christ have a presence in Haiti. We have several congregations there. Outreach International works to help provide adequate education in this impoverished nation.

Haiti is the poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere. Yet, they are just south from the United States, one of the most affluent countries in the world. I have contacted Outreach International as well as the field Apostle for Haiti, Bunda Chibwe, about how the church is handling the poverty in Haiti. I will keep everyone posted on what I find out. This last World Conference while we were in session we were informed that many of our brothers and sisters in Haiti had died in flash floods. Money from the World Church Oblation Fund went out to help those in need. Please be mindful when you are planning for your giving to the church to also remember the World Oblation Fund which provides the funds for services, food, and countless other needs for church members world wide.

Captivating

There are many books that have been written regarding the nature of males and females both from within and outside the church. Many seek to explain the different roles of men and women, maybe the differences of how we each handle various aspects of our lives, and so forth. In spite of others attempts John and Stasi Eldredge have created a book which goes deeper(in my opinion).

Instead of pointing out differences or trying to delegate specific gender roles, John and Stasi work together to help the reader come to a better understanding of the desires women find within thier hearts in the deepest spiritual sense. Through the use of scripture, testimonies, and life experience the authors help the reader search thier hearts for thier own deepest desires which the Lord has placed there. They search the questions in our hearts. Those questions we have asked all our lives. Am I beautiful? Am I worth it? Am I lovable?

With each chapter the reader will find themselves searching thier own life, past hurts and pains, struggles, and questions and begin to understand why so many of us never believe how amazing we truely are. I began to understand more about who God created me as a woman, an image bearer of the character of the Lord in this world. You also come to a stronger realization that nothing, not a relationship, material possession, or compliment can fully answer your question or fill the void. Only that love found in a relationship with Christ Jesus makes us whole and heals us from the past. This is an amazing book and I think would be a good read for anyone who wants to better understand thier heart.

John Eldredge has also written a book that coincides with "Captivating" for men titled, "Wild at Heart", which challanges men to also look at the deepest desires of thier own hearts and to allow God to make them fully alive.

Heya People!

It took me a long time to get things organized over here, just after barely two weeks in the Netherlands, I went to WinterKamp near the border of Austria. Which was awesome and I just got home after 11 hours by car and 4 by train.But it was an awesome experience, once again.I just wanted to say that I felt so blessed to spent time with all the marvelous people from the Portland/Seattle/Salem area in the past months.You guys were amazing! And it felt as I belonged for years in our small group.My wish is to see you all soon again. Who knows in America again, but first in Europe. ;-)Thank you all for the wonderfull time!

What: There are many theatres in the Portland area that show recently released movies a fraction of the cost of a corporate theatre. Lucky for us they also serve pizza! So we get to not only save money and see a movie on the big screen but also get some tasty pizza pie...
Where: Many of the theatres play different movies. We will check a few days before on movies and times. We will choose from the Baghdad, Laurelhurst, Montvilla, or Kennedy School theatres. We will meet at the Portland Congregation beforehand at 5pm and choose a movie from any of the theatres and go from there.
When: Saturday, January 19, 5-10pm
Cost: $3-5 a movie, $5-10 for food

Upcoming YAPS Event! Many of the MAYAs are already discussing carpool options. Let us know if you want to go!

Yes that's right, back by popular demand . . . a trip to the great country up north: Canada! After all of last year's fun and fellowship, we decided that another visit to Canada would be well worth it. You know what? The Canadians actually went for it! They WANT us back!!! And who are we to deny them? (And I thought we blew it last time with our directional skills . . . way to go Sean). Our last activity was slightly diminished due to the weather, but we still had an awesome time. 6 of us showed up and ate good food, unwrapped silly gifts (white elephant gifts rule!), and played Scene It and Catch Phrase. While I'm happy that 6 of us still came, I'm hoping that we can blow that number out of the water for our journey northward - can we do it??? That's what I thought ;) Here's the preliminary info:

What: Trip to Canada! We'll be heading up on a Saturday and staying overnight until Sunday afternoon. We plan on spending the day on Saturday having fun in downtown Vancouver, B.C. (GREAT place) and then retiring to the church for games and karaoke (I have the voice of an angel . . . the angel of death that is). Sunday morning we'll lead the worship at the Vancouver congregation and then share in lunch with the afterward. If you're interested in helping us with the worship, please let us know because we need it!

When: January 12th and 13th (Saturday to Sunday). We will be leaving early in the morning on Saturday and then leaving Sunday afternoon. How much: Sean and I have yet to finalize all the details, so we'll get back to you with specifics about the cost of the weekend :)

How will we get there: We'll caravan and carpool . . . so I'll call it carapool. I love word combination. So, yes, we'll carapool from the States up to Canada and we can definitely arrange pick-up/meet-up points along the way as needed. So, if you want to go and want to join up with us, let us know and we'll work out the carapool details.

**Important** You will need to bring a Passport or birth certificate - they are not required yet, but they make it a heck of a lot easier to cross the border. I know all of you must be salivating by now at the prospect of joining us on such a royal adventure . . . don't worry, I am too. Just ring a bell, say "Canada," and say hello to drool. Can you say "Classical Conditioning"? (If not, it's just my psychobabble anyway)

Bottom line: It's going to be a great time, so I strongly urge all of you to consider coming. It's a wonderful chance to fellowship and worship together with our brothers and sisters from up North. Hi there! My name is Erica Blevins and I’m happy to introduce myself as Young Adult Disciple Formation Specialist for Community of Christ. Let me tell you just little about who I am….

Currently, I live in an apartment in Lansing, Michigan, and I’m serving in this role long-distance. I'm engaged to my fiancé, Michael, and we're looking forward to moving into married life very soon! I am 27 years old and enjoy volleyball and theatre. For fun I also love reading, laughing with friends, eating peanut butter by the spoonful, playing Frisbee, and I must also admit to an undying love of Kermit the Frog. God has been very faithful in my life, an intimate Friend and constant Hope for the future. Following Christ's call to discipleship has been a surprising and challenging adventure for me! I’m passionate about responding to God's faithfulness and sharing God's Hope through our peace-focused faith community, Community of Christ. I am so excited for the possibilities for this world if we take action in response to God's promises!

I grew up in Independence, Missouri, USA as a member of Community of Christ. I have two sisters – one is a twin! I went to college at Missouri State University, where I gained some experience leading a small campus ministry group. And from there I moved to Michigan, USA. In East Lansing, Michigan I have worked at a mission center office, as a pastor, and done campus ministry work at the Community of Christ Journey House Campus Ministry Center for 4 years. I have loved the energy, creativity, and mentoring that is involved with campus ministry work!

What does that “Young Adult Disciple Formation Specialist” mean? It means I have an overwhelming Hope for the world-changing people that God is calling Community of Christ to be – and I wholeheartedly believe that our young adults are made to be the lifeblood of that movement! It’s my role to help us take on that adventure! I hope to help Community of Christ young adults become unified - to support one another in the ministries we’re doing around the globe and unified to rally one another in our vision and hope for the world. This past Sunday young adults from the Portland, Vancouver, and Seattle areas gathered at the Garden Grove congregation to say "see ya later" to Erik! Everyone enjoyed the classic potluck dinner. Erik has been in the northwest for the past 6 or so months. Before that he was in the midwest doing World Service Corps for the Community of Christ. Erik will be returning to the Netherlands this weekend. Erik was an active participant in the MAYAs and YAPS groups. We will miss his smile, jokes, insights, and pictures! All of us have been blessed to have gotten to know Erik. Erik, we wish you well and look forward to seeing you again (hmmm...seems like a young adult trip to Europe would be needed).

Dream For Darfur: A Testimony

This past Sunday a handful of MAYAs got to participate in an Interfaith Service co-sponsored by Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon in support of the "Dream For Darfur". We got to hear from several survivors of genocide from all over the world including Mohammad Yahya, founder of Damanga Coalition for Freedom and Democracy and a survivor of the Darfur genocide. Below is a testimony from one of the young adults of the night.

Unfortunately, I know very little about the conflict in Darfur, so it was nice to learn about it firsthand through this church service. The keynote speaker is a survivor of the genocide in Darfur. He was heavily accented and got hard to understand when he yelled part of his speech (in anger against the Chinese-backed government and the lack of response from the international community). But it was touching to hear his story. The service itself was awesome. It featured various faith communities, integrating them into one service. The LDS Church had a choir that sang a couple songs; another group had a Trombone Quartet; people from the Catholic Church, the Baha'i faith, the Tibetan Buddhist Community, a Synagogue, an Armenian Apostolic Church, and a mosque gave various reflection moments. They illustrated the world's promise after the Holocaust: "Never Again." Yet, it happens time and again. We learned nothing from Rwanda.

After the service, we filed outside with our candles for a vigil in the South Park Blocks (my favourite place to walk three or more times a week). They had a torch that was lit, and went around to light everyone's candles. Survivors of the genocides in Armenia, the Holocaust, Bosnia, Rwanda, and Darfur all spoke about "Never Again" as we held the candlelight vigil. It was kind of windy, but my flame wouldn't go out...even after the vigil was over and we (the MAYAs) headed to Starbucks. My flame would keep getting lower but never go out, then grow again in size. The other four people in MAYA had their candles blown out by the wind, but mine wouldn't go out, even when we were at Starbucks. I waited outside for mine to go out naturally, but it wouldn't...so I kind of waved it until it went out so I could go inside and get my Chai Latte.

While my candle was fighting the wind, a thought played in my head. I don't know where it came from, but it basically said: "The flame is you. Though you think there are times when the forces are too strong and your flame burns low, you'll never go out, because there are times when your flame grows large. Remember this. Your flame is strong enough to endure, your moment will come. Don't ever give up."

After we got our drinks and everyone else piled into Rachel's car, I walked back to my apartment, just ecstatic over what I experienced, over the message I had received while watching my candle flame fight against the wind without going out like I wanted it to. I made it home in time to catch a couple of my shows, including my absolute favourite, which I watched absolutely riveted: "Brothers and Sisters" (my favourite show at the moment...and it just keeps getting better and better). It was the perfect end to a perfect day to a perfect weekend.

In fact, I had trouble falling asleep because I was too euphoric over the events of my weekend. When I looked at my calendar and counted the weeks on rotation and off rotation if I had taken the Alaska job a couple months ago, I realized that I would be on the Alaska rotation this weekend (up in Prudhoe Bay) and would have totally missed out on what was probably one of the best weekends I've ever experienced. That only reinforced my gratitude that I didn't get the job, that my hesitation came from a place that is wiser than I. I finally fell asleep with the mantra in my head: I am blessed, I am blessed, I am blessed

AFTER spending several years in the South, Darrell Wallace and Jennifer Adkins of Greensboro , N.C. , decided it was time to move. “We’re both artistic and politically active, and it was really hard to find peers into the same thing in Greensboro ,” said Mr. Wallace, 30.

The couple chose to relocate to Portland , Ore. , last spring because of “how beautiful it is, and how much the people respect the beauty and put forth an effort to maintain it,” he said.

Mr. Wallace and Ms. Adkins are not the only ones impressed with the city. Last year, there were twice as many people in the 25-to-39 age group moving into the city as leaving, according to Charles Rynerson, a demographer with the Population Research Center at Portland State University .

In all, 23,454 young adults moved in, while only 12,125 moved away, giving the city the fourth highest net migration in the country, after Las Vegas , Charlotte and Atlanta , Mr. Rynerson said. And in the over-55 age group around 12,000 individuals moved to the city.

Part of the draw is that Portland has maintained a small-town feel in an urban atmosphere. There is a vibrant restaurant and cultural scene, accessible public transportation — light rail, street cars and buses — and a population enthusiastic about the outdoors and the environment. Mount Hood is an hour east of the city and the Pacific Ocean is an hour and a half west.
Although the Portland region is home to high-tech companies, like Intel and Hewlett-Packard, along with athletic apparel companies, like Nike and Adidas, individuals often move to Portland for reasons other than work.

“If you really wanted to get rich, you might choose a different metropolitan area,” Mr. Rynerson said. “There are other places with more job growth and higher salaries, but the quality of life is what people come here for.”

Another draw is the affordable rental market. After exploring several neighborhoods, Mr. Wallace, an information technology professional, and Ms. Adkins, 26, chose Portland ’s Southeast section, a popular neighborhood for young people. “It is cozy, self-contained, functional and quiet but still has plenty of stuff to do,” Mr. Wallace said.

The couple rent a studio for $595 a month. What they pay is typical for Portland . According to the Metro Multifamily Housing Association, which represents residential property-managers, the average rental price for a studio in the Southeast section is $525, while a two-bedroom apartment leases for $724. In the Northwest area, which includes the trendy Pearl District, studio rentals average $571 and two-bedrooms cost about $971.

“In Portland , people are either Eastside people or Westside people,” said Charles Turner, a broker with of Prudential Northwest Properties, referring to the geographical wall formed by the Willamette River . “If you want to be on the Westside, your price range will start a little higher and you’re going the have trees and bigger lots.”

Buying options are comparatively affordable, as well. While the rest of the country has seen housing prices boom and now fall, Portland has remained reasonably stable.

According to the Regional Multiple Listings Service for Oregon , the average sale price for a condominium in September was $257,200, up from $246,800 in 2006. The median price of a single-family detached home was $308,003, compared with $380,200 in the Seattle-Tacoma area, $595,200 in San Diego and $748,100 in the San Francisco Bay area, according to Portland State University ’s Center for Real Estate.

Barnaby Willett, 34, who moved to Portland from Manhattan, found the prices so attractive that he decided to forgo his original plan to rent when he first moved to the city in 2006. “I visited my brother in late 2005, and he lived in Belmont ,” said Mr. Willett, an information consultant. “I liked it off the bat. I’ve always enjoyed feeling connected to where I live, but it was harder to do that in New York .”

He said it was easy to meet people in Portland and noted that artistic expression seemed to permeate the culture. Last March, Mr. Willett bought an 865-square-foot condo in the Southeast area for $320,000.

Young people are not the only ones drawn to Portland . Richard Caplan, a broker with the Windermere Cronin & Caplan Realty Group, said that his agents recently have seen a lot of retirees moving to the Northwest district neighborhoods.

Though the city is “not strictly a retirement place,” he said, “ Portland allows them to be part of the larger community, not just the retirement segment.”

Richard and Lila Suffoletto would agree. The couple, both in their mid-60s, had been living in an over-55 community in Sacramento , Calif. , for three and a half years before buying a town house in the Northwest section last month. “Frankly, we were bored to tears,” said Mr. Suffoletto, who retired from a career in medical and security equipment.

Jan and Juergen Striemer moved to the city after living for more than 40 years in Los Angeles. The couple had become familiar with the area after visiting friends in Seattle and taking a road trip down the Oregon coast, a stretch of land that Mr. Striemer, 67, referred to as “one of the most gorgeous pieces of real estate anywhere on Earth.” The Striemers paid $550,000 for their contemporary house near the Pearl District. “In Los Angeles , it would’ve cost $1.5 million to start,” Mr. Striemer said.

Both he and his wife noted that Los Angeles had become too crowded, too polluted and, surprisingly, too sunny for them. “We never realized how much both of us had missed seasons and trees,” said Mrs. Striemer, 57. “Who needs another beautiful day in paradise? Give me some weather.”

From early-20th-century Craftsman-style houses to converted industrial buildings to environmentally conscious new developments, the diverse mix of housing appeals to both young and old. Two such examples are the Clinton Condominiums and the Belmont Street Lofts, mixed-use projects, developed by Randy Rapaport, where Mr. Willett bought. Mr. Rapaport said he wanted to create a development that embraced the Portland sensibility of low-impact living, clean design and community focus. “It’s about the unwritten philosophy of Portland ,” he said, “that this is a do-it-yourself, local, sustainable community.” His retail tenants include a yoga studio, a hair salon and a Malaysian restaurant.

As the housing markets in Los Angeles , San Francisco and Seattle remain high, Portland has become one of the few affordable urban options on the West Coast. Couple that with its natural beauty, its activist personality and its creative sensibility and the appeal is clear. “It’s very common that someone will visit a friend,” Mr. Rapaport said, “and then they’re moving here three months later.”

Under the Overpass

I was prompted today to share this book with you all after an experience I had this morning. Pretty much every day I pass a homeless camp on my way to work. This morning there were paramedics taking someone in a blue bag to the vehicle. I was awestruck as I saw many of the people staying at this camp looking on as they put this stranger (to me) away never to be seen again.

I thought to myself, who was this person, what was thier name, where are they from, do they have family that will miss them, who were they?

I then remembered this book I read several years ago, "Under The Overpass."

I was searching for a book that would inspire me, something where I could read about people living out thier faith in the rawest and truest ways. I grabbed "Under the Overpass" off the shelf and began to read the back cover. Hmmm...a story of two Christian upper class guys who decide to live on the streets, homeless, penniless for 6 months to truely see what it meant to lose everything.

This was what I was looking for. When I got home I could not put it down. They shared many stories of thier time in the cities in the US with the higher homeless populations: Phoenix, Portland, San Francisco, Denver, and DC. They shared thier spiritual experiences, thier struggles, the discrimination, the hardships, the suffering, and the joy they encountered on thier 6 month journey. One might find it interesting how they were treated by many Christians along the way.

Now several years later I am still being impacted by this books message. It has helped shape how I look at society, the marginalized, and the homeless. I see things a lot differently now. I act differently now. I myself have contemplated many times if I would have had the courage to do what they accomplished. Could I even spend a weekend on the streets living homeless?

Those who live on the streets have names, lives, histories, stories, family, and friends just like the person I saw this morning. They, like us, love, struggle, have faith in God, and encounter the same experiences others do it is just in different ways. It is so easy to forget those lost to society. They are adults, children, and teenagers. All of which are in need of care, love, attention, and to know that they are of worth. If you can, read the book, step out, listen to the stories of the homeless, spend time with them, learn thier names, and share with them when they are in need.

A Little Note From Our Sister Group in the Puget Sound Area

Yes, the Land of Port (aka “Portland”) is an enchanting land – full of possibility and great spirit. The Young Adults of the Puget Sound will visit this mystic land down south. Will you join this sacred quest with us? Will you dare to share an experience that will bring us closer to one another and closer to our Maker? The answer better be yes or I’ll kick you .. . . in a very Christ-like way of course. Leather sandals and, well, you get the picture . . .Let’s get down to the nitty gritty of it:

When: November 10th and 11th (Sat to Sun).Plan: We’ll be leaving from Marysville, WA – the Cedarcrest Congregation – at 8:30am on Saturday morning. We can make a couple stops on the way down south to pick up people or to have others join our caravan (ex. Seattle and Auburn/Tacoma) if needed.We will then stop for lunch in or around Vancouver, WA – you’ll need to bring money for lunch. Afterward, we will proceed to the Portland Community of Christ Church to drop off our stuff (should be around 1pm) and then we will head to downtown Portland for an afternoon of fun and exploration.

Dinner will be out on the town at a place to be determined – you will need to bring money for dinner as well.Following dinner, we will return to the church for an evening of games and activities. The congregation has a gym and has plenty of space for hanging out.

Yes, I’m sure “What if, Then” will rear it’s ugly head :)Sunday morning, YAPS will lead the 11am worship service after a breakfast that we will provide. We will need your help for this! We need people who are willing to share testimonies, read scriptures, participate in a short activity (focus moment), and help with the offertory.

I want you to join in with our group. I want you to develop peacemaking skills. Truly, I believe we have a lot to gain from a union together. However, if that's not where your being led. If you don't think sharing time with us is the direction towards which you are being called. Please, consider praying for our groups and if you do, please pray that God will move our members to unite as well. Consider praying that our ministries will be effective, vibrant and powerful. Pray that we may be the agents of love we seek to be. Finally, dedicate your life (as your able) to the pursuit of fulfilling the Kingdom of God on earth.

For me, don't let another "calling" pass you by unanswered if you haven't connected with God's will and plan for your life. There really is a loving God out there and all around who wants to be your friend and desires that you invite Him into your life. It is my prayer that if you don't know Him but want to, that He lower the walls between you and Him and that a bond begins to form right now ,at this moment, that shall be the beginning of an unending friendship and journey. All in all, may the light of God's love direct you in every avenue of your life and all humanity. God speed. May Peace be with you.

Free Concert at the Tuality Congregation

Tuality is having a concert on the 28th of October at 5pm. It is featuring the talents of Micah Hammac and Chad Elliot. This is a free concert all are welcome. Chad and Micah are young adults known by all in this area. It would be a great opportunity to get a bunch of them together at this time. Roloff Farm and Pumpkin Patch Recap with Pictures

Pumpkins, pumpkins, squash, and more pumpkins. Don't forget the hayride/tour of the farm, the cool tree house, the western town, castle, bridge to no where, secret trap doors and tunnels, singing camp songs while waiting in line, and questions with the "Pumpkin Master". Top it off with dinner at a local hole in the wall joint, burgers and RC Cola! The afternoon at the Roloff Farm and Pumpkin Patch was anything but boring. It was an awesome time. We had young adults from Vancouver, WA, Portland, Salem and all the way from Eugene. Check out the picture below of the day!

Steve and Cathi Veazey Take Time Out With The Young Adults

On September 29th, Steve and Cathi Veazey took time out from thier busy weekend at the Portland Congregation to meet with 18 young adults and 3 "older" young adults from Oregon and Washington. The Veazey's spent the 90 minutes with us answering many questions from young adult ministries, how the church discusses important issues, congregational support, and how the couple met. It was a great time of fun and fellowship as we learned more about the President and his wife as well as the church. Our thanks go out to the Veazey's for taking the time to hear us and answer our questions!

A Testimony From Nick Carroll

For most of this year, I have been looking for a better paying job in a field that I'm interested in. I've applied to about 50, sending resume after resume after resume to no response. I've been growing more and more depressed over my lack of finding a better job and felt like I was in a downward spiral by July when I was about ready to quit my job and take my chances with a temp agency, which is not the best option but that was how desperate I felt about my situation.For some odd reason, I finally got some responses in August after not getting any all year. Most led no where, but at least I knew people were getting my resume. There was one job offer that I got really excited about, which required me to work three weeks of every month in Alaska. Though it wouldn't have brought me closer to my career goals, it would've been an adventure worth having for about a year. But at the same time, there was a job that was exactly what I wanted. I was torn by having to make a decision that I had asked for prayers at the prayer service we had at Rachel's house. Jarom and Tim both offered prayers on my behalf and I just want to let you know that their prayers worked!

The next day, I got an answer. Rather than go into details about it, I learned that the person offering the Alaska job wasn't truthful and the other job had already selected someone, so they had saved me from making a huge mistake in accepting the Alaska job. Had I taken the Alaska job, it would have required a huge sacrifice just when we finally got a good Young Adult group started in Portland that I want to be a part of. And if I had taken the job, I wouldn't be at the retreat now because I'd be in Alaska working right now. Because I hesitated, they decided not to hire me, which was actually a blessing. It was the best rejection I've ever gotten.

I was actually happy about the decision. I just need to be patient for the right job to appear that is more in line with what I want to do in life.A couple weekends ago, I listened to nothing but Enya cds all weekend and I was surprised how calm and peaceful I felt on Monday morning. I was so blissed out on her music that no one's negativity could affect me. Something Rachel said earlier reminded me of a line from an Enya song: "no storm can shake my innermost calm." I try to remember those words, especially when I feel myself heading into a downward spiral. I just have to remember to maintain an inner peace and trust that everything will work out.

A Testimony From Jessica Porter

I consider myself a very outspoken person in most circles. However, when I'm in church related groups, I tend to keep more quiet and reflect. I often have a desire to speak up, but bite my tongue on most occasions. I have fought with whether I'm just a horrible public speaker, or I wouldn't know what to say. My life experience and situations that I've put myself in have led me to a certain common ground with many people. I don't like to come out and talk about it. But, I find joy in helping others who are in similar situations that I used to be in get through their troubles. Today, I felt that there is a reason I don't always tend to speak up. I have been called to listen. I'm to listen with not only my ears, but with my heart. So, that when those that do share come forward in their desparation, I am able to see that and not interupt. I can come to them on a more personal level to share with them that I understand. I can let them know that I have been there, and that they have a friend that truly cares and is willing to help carry that burden that weighs on their hearts. Through God, of course, the burden is made light, and I can share that burden so that the journey isn't overwhelming.

I pick my battles, my times to speak up, and my times to reflect. I choose to listen, and that is how I spread peace throughout my walk with Christ.

1.Naomi Soper: On Friday, we received word that Naomi Soper woke up blind in one eye. As the day progressed, there was some light getting through and they spent the good part of the day trying to find out what is happening. This they know: her retina and vessels are healthy. There is significant pressure being exerted on her optic nerve; cause unknown. She will go to the university medical center to see the neuro-ophthalmologist and have a specialized MRI. Joy Farquhar, Naomi’s mother, informed me that the likelihood of a tumor is slim since this was a sudden onset, but the likelihood of multiple sclerosis or damage from meds is much greater. She says they are hoping for idiopathic (unknown cause) optic neuritis, since that might be gone in a month. But whatever the cause, she needs our prayers.

2.From Rebecca Redel: I just got an email from my parents today and my dog is in the hospital. IV and everything. I cried. He's such a great dog and I miss him so much! Please send out a prayer that he gets well and quickly.

Darfur Interfaith Service

For all you people out there keeping up with what is going on in Darfur…
November 11th – 4pm Interfaith Service – Never Again including a candlelight vigil and passing the Olympic Torch – Kristallnacht – The day of broken glass Through a network of the Interfaith Alliance, Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon , the Inter-Religious Action Network of Washington County and the Interfaith Council of Greater Portland there will be an hour service where people of all faiths are invited to speak and pray together. We will have a Darfuri keynote speaker. After the service, community members will gather outside in the Park Blocks at Portland State for a candlelight vigil and the passing of the Olympic Torch by survivors in the community.

What: Open: Pumpkin Season opens Friday, September 29, 2006; The farm will be open Fridays & Saturdays during the month of October from 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM; Sundays from 12:00 noon - 6:00 PM.. October is a very special time of year at Roloff's Farm! A visit to our pumpkin patch and the annual tour through the Roloff family’s private playground have long been a tradition for many local families. Among the various structures are a picturesque Western Town, an incredible three-story Tree House, a massive Medieval Castle and even a full-size Pirate Ship. Because they were constructed for the enjoyment of the Roloff family and friends, they were not designed to be used for recreational purposes by the general public. The Roloff family has made LIMITED access available to the public only during October’s Pumpkin Patch season due to the number of requests to “tour” the property. Matt and the Roloff family star in The Learning Channel’s TV show “Little People, Big World.”

We will go and get dinner afterwards depending on where the group

Samish Island Young Adult Retreat 2007: Includes Recap, Slideshow, and Testimony

At 8:30am the MAYA young adults gathered to leave for what would be a 5 hour 500 mile round trip trek to Samish Island for the annual Samish Island Young Adult Retreat. With everyone carpooling we set off at what was the start of a beautiful day. Upon arriving at Samish we were blessed with a beautiful day. Since we got there rather early many of the young adults set out to explore the campgrounds. From the lake, to the Indian burial ground, to the point, and back again. Camp started at 8pm as more and more young adults arrived. We started the retreat off with a campfire and ended it with devotions and games.

The next morning everyone arose to find that the local forcast had been wrong. We were supposed to have rain all weekend but the Lord blessed us with wonderful weather all weekend. Saturday was full of fun, fellowship, and worship. The morning worhsip was led by Rachel at the campfire pit overlooking Lake Freestad where Rachel shared a personal testimony of her struggles this past week and how the Lord led her out of it. She then opened it to everyone to share of thier struggles. The group took the time to open up and share with one another. We closed with what became the weekend song, "We are one in the Spirit." From there everyone attended the theme class given by guest ministers Christie and Christian Skoor-Smith. They discussed with us about Enviromental Stewardship, the state of oil in the world, what we can do to help the environment, and how to get involved. Many came away with a deeper understanding and conviction for what they need to do. The afternoon was filled with rest, volleyball, and many spending time laying out with a good book. For dinner everyone participated in what has become a camp tradition of making our own pizzas for dinner. Some were unique, pretty, and odd but they all tasted good as Sean yelled out Prices Right style when each individuals pizza was finished and ready to eat.

We started off the evening with a rousing game of "Mafia". Who says you are ever to old to play games. Campfire followed as Rachel and Jessica topped off the weekend with an encore of thier toast skit. We all then gathered together for a communion service led by Erik as we listened to music and shared testimonies of the cost of our discipleship. Erik portrayed wonderfully how in our world today we all struggle with being Chrisitian. Many shared and bore testimony and strife over the cost of thier discipleship. Everyone connected and comforted one another and the peaceful Spirit of Christ was present as we all partook of the sacrament of communion.

The night was topped off again with games and late night discussion. As the retreat came to a close the following morning with everyone running around doing camp chores there was that Spirit of anticipation as the time came to leave. We gathered together in the closing worship led by Sean to share in our experiences over the weekend and how we know it is hard to leave after being together in such an amazing environment.

Camp ended at 12pm but most stayed behind talking and saying good-byes until 1. We were truely blessed this past weekend with the Spirit of Christ as we gathered together to share with one another in fellowship, worship, and fun. For those that missed, do not worry, you do not have to wait another year. There will be another young adult retreat in the Spring at Lewis River Campgrounds in Yacolt, Washington (more details to come soon).

A Testimony From Tim Soper
The recent young adult retreat at Samish Island was truly awesome. We had 36 young adults show up which to me is just wonderful. We had great times playing volleyball, making pizza and of course joining together in worship and sharing each others company in fellowship and shared testimony. About midway through camp I had already decided that the camp had met my expectations and exceeded them and it only got better as well and concluded with, for me, a sense of accomplishment and contentment.

For the week approaching camp though I have to say I had my doubts and was seriously questioning what my role was and how I would fit in. I deeply wanted to be completely in-tuned with God's will and make the most of what I felt could be a great opportunity. As the days past and it became closer and closer to the time we would begin the 4+ hour drive from Portland past Seattle to Samish, nothing it seemed was stirring in my heart or leading me to contentment with the upcoming events.

But, if I may, I'd like to turn the clock back about a week to our congregational retreat at Lewis River. It was here that an epiphany occurred in my spiritual growth and development that allowed for further closeness with God. Although simple and possibly trite, I took a step with God that has revolutionized my look at life and has changed me in a way which I believe has forced me to a brink from which I will never be able to return.

I gained a closeness with God I had never achieved and so naturally any upcoming events would be judged by the success of this leap and so naturally my heart was set on great things and it was easy to look at further progress with speculation. In the process of this retreat at Lewis River I accepted God and my relationship with God to be one of Father and child. I had already learned of the unconditional love He held for me. Deep inside me though, for the longest time I felt I constantly had to earn it or repay it through good deeds. Everyday I would approach life with an unceasing drive to do good in anyway I could. I constantly tried to gain new ways in which I could pray more efficiently or make a closer approximation of myself to my Savior.
With God playing the role of parent it is now clear to me that with my heart true, any reasonable request for needs from Him are requests He wants to fill. This is the, "possibly simple and trite", "epiphany" I had. When these needs are not fulfilled the result stems from the work of the devil and the evil in men's hearts. I know now that I am literally entitled to the granting of these needs on my behalf as I unceasingly look to do my Holy Father's work.

At Samish, I walked out into the daylight. I felt a refreshing breeze flow over my skin. I looked to an open bench with a spectacular view of the bay. I knew this was where I would spend my "rest-time" for the afternoon. As I lay on the bench and peered out over the majestic view. Birds flew over my head. Insects buzzed about hurriedly attending to their "daily chores". The wind whipped about. All about me the Spirit moved and I shared with my maker, some one-on-one down time. I conversed with Him openly in my mind and through my senses. We were completely connected and we knew every attribute of each other. As a loving Father He guided me to understand anything I desired and gently instructed of priority kingdom building needs. He swept away any fears I held inside or was ready to openly share with Him. The most deep love I had ever experienced occurred here and every doubt ended. In the innermost depths of my soul I have a devotion to my God now that I know I can never again deny. I have an understanding now of exactly how he wants my life to be lived and truly all that's left of this life as far as question or insecurity is an endless war, for love.

The couple will be in town as the guest ministers at the priesthood retreat. Since we are blessed to already have them here in town we were able to get them to also meet with us. MAYAs First Event Ever

So our first event was at the annual Mt. Tabor Soapbox Derby. It was pretty awesome with several thousand people there and lots of really cool cars. You had the themed cars of course and then you had those guys who are seriously in to having a smooth riding fast car. Check out the slideshow below for pics of some of the cars. I think my favorites were the Big Wheel and Noah's Ark (complete with the nursery song blaring, "The Lord told Noah to build him an arky, arky..."). Which one is your favorite? -Rachel

Welcome-First Blog

I envisioned this site being something that everyone could utilize not just for updates on events and so forth but a site you could go to to post a prayer request, share a testimony, or read something interesting that is going on in the church or the world. It is pretty amazing to think about how far the Lord has brought us as a group already in these few months. I know the Lord will continue to bless us in our endeavors as we continue to strive to strengthen our own lives in Him as well as our congregations and our young adult group. I hope everyone realizes how important they are to the Lord and to the church. Your presence at services and activities adds to the community and stregthens the body. Your relationship with Christ is of extreme importance to the Lord. He wants you to grow closer to Him. Our only hope is that our group will be a part in helping you do that.
